about

"Throughout five tracks of icy, freak-style punk, Permanently Wet
remains sour. Bitter in flavor, it highlights gooey bass lines and lean, languid guitars that work in tandem to produce a sound so precise, they sting on contact. From the frantic rhythms —like a feverish itch needing to be scratched—to the contorting beat, the genre’s usual suspects are at play, but Period Bomb’s savage energy keeps dullness at bay. Belligerent and pissed off in her vocal delivery, Camila’s statements are undeniably bold. Her hostility verges on playful from beginning to end. This new, shrewd style of punk takes shape in different variations, but shares the trait of doing more with less. Fewer instruments, pedals, post-production effects — more words per minute, though — less sonic clutter and reduced room for error. The alienation they’re decked out in is an absence of connection, an inability or unwillingness to connect with the Now, and it’s hard to disagree when the Now is so shitty anyway. But what Permanently Wet reveals is that Period Bomb are aware that the past was just as shitty, that there’s no refuge in any time and you can only embrace the rage and frustration and twist it into something hideously artful."
